Muzei Live Wallpaper spruces up your Android device with classic art for Free


Customization is one of Android's biggest strengths over its major mobile competitors.  Unlike iOS, Windows Phone, BB10, and Web OS, if you do not like the stock interface on your device, you can completely change it.  It's a great option for those who like to tinker with their device while those who do not can simply enjoy their stock launcher set up.

The option to set a "live" wallpaper has been a stock option since the early days of android.  It used to suck up battery like some technological vampire as well as run slow on some devices, but that is rarely much of a problem these days.  Advances in technology have made the OS more battery friendly and efficient, and hardware has also come a long way in power saving.  Many devices also come with higher capacity batteries to cope with our always on and connected world.

Enter the recently released Muzei live wallpaper by Dashclock developer Roman Nuri.  This free wallpaper (with no ads!) will spruce up your device with alternating images of classic works of art.  The effect is very subtle with the image being blurred in your background as to not distract from icons and widgets, however, if you want a clear view of the image, all you need to do is double tap your screen.

While the app has only been out for two days (as of this post), there are already extensions in the Play store to add new sources of images.  From NASA to Tumblr, your device will always look great with the selected images.  This being Android, if you want to use your own gallery pictures as your background, that option is also available.


The app allows you to set the amount of blur and dim for your images.

 Similar to Dashclock, I have not seen any type noticeable dip in battery life while using this app even with the extensions added.   Combining both apps, it really does make an otherwise stock android install look classy.  My Nexus 5 looks great.  I recommend these apps together for a combination of beauty and functionality.  For the price of free, they just can't be beat.

Retron 5 hacked to launch RetroArch and play ROMS off your SD card

It appears that a someone going by the screenname of  RetroN Labo  on Youtube has successfully hacked the Retron 5 console to run the full version of  Retroarch.  In the video shown, various emulators that are not part of the original firmware are playable including the PC Engine, Playstation One, Nintendo DS, and Wonderswan.  As the stock firmware from the Retron 5 is programmed to load games from an original cartridge when it is inserted, this hack appears to run ROM and ISO files, most likely from the SD card slot built into the back of the console. In most of instances shown in the video, emulation appeared to run smooth, and the games previewed looked playable. Hyperkin's latest update ruins Retron 5 experience: Here are the downgrade links for the Retron 5

Lifesperience is now Raycommend, which can be found here:    Ray Commend   There is no easy way to say this.  Hyperkin's latest v2.2 firmware for the Retron 5 is a bug-filled mess which for many people (myself included) will ruin your Genesis experience.  As soon as I upgraded, my Genesis carts would no longer be detected by the system, and sometimes, even the other cartridge slots would stop detecting games. These were carts that worked perfectly fine on prior firmwares.  They also work on the original consoles (which I also own) flawlessly.  At this time, the Hyperkin website only links you to the v2.2 firmware  or strangely enough, the v2.0 beta 6 firmware . The only fix in my case, was to downgrade back to v2.1 which resolved my issues.  Game cartridges once again detected just fine.  For those of you out there wondering, downgrading is the easy part.  Finding the links for the prior firmware files was the painful par...
