The Nexus 9 is a huge disappointment

Perhaps I expected too much out of this tablet, since it does not seem like it was rushed to market.   Today, Google has announced the Nexus 6, 9, and player, and out of the three devices, it seems like the Nexus 9 really got the short end of the stick.  Not that it's a horrible device by any means, after all, it has a powerful 64bit processor that should be great for gaming, and the device itself is slim and slated to weigh under a pound. Unfortunately, for a Google device that is priced at a premium, it falls short of modern expectations.  Let me explain: The first problem is that a $400 tablet in 2014 is going to be released with a measly 16gb of storage.  To top it off, it's going to max out at 32gb of storage at $599 for the LTE version.  The Nexus 6 will max out at 64gb.  Meanwhile, Google continues to dodge questions about adding Micro SD support and with this being a tablet, there aren't really any physical space restrictions.   Matias Dua...

10+ reasons why classic gaming is better than current gaming

With the recent story of  EA shutting down 50 game servers starting on June 30th ,it really made me think about what a raw deal gamers get these days as compared to the early days of gaming.  In the days of classic gaming, you bought your game, all extras were already included, and if you took care of it, the game would most likely outlive you and your grandchildren. Here are 10 reasons why classic gaming is better than current gen gaming: You own the physical cartridge and can keep it, sell it, or trade it, even if the game company ceases to exist.   Most games were instant on with no loading.  There weren't any online DRM checks that prevented you from playing your games on a train or plane if you are out of range of an internet connection. There were no extra fees for things such as on disc DLC.  All extras such as hidden characters were unlocked by playing the game or with "secret" codes. Cartridges were damn near indestructible.  Seriously. ...

Delicious alternatives to creamer for your morning Coffee

In my search to drink the tastiest possible coffee, I have left no stone unturned.  I have tried non dairy creamers as well as almond milk, and both have their weaknesses.  Almond milk tends to clump up, and does not taste very good with coffee.  Many of the non dairy creamers either taste extremely artificial, or are extremely unhealthy.   Some even have dairy ingredients while claiming to be non dairy which should be some kind of a warning sign. What are lactose intolerant people supposed to do?  Try the So Delicious unsweetened vanilla Coconut milk.  In my experience, I found that it adds a nice and subtle flavor to your coffee without interfering or overpowering its native taste. In terms of ingredients, the worst offender is Carrageenan, so keep this away from infants (which should be common sense with most non dairy alternatives) as they may not be able to properly digest it.   According to Fooducate , this product rates a B+, which i...

Why I chose the Dell Venue 8 Pro over the Surface Pro 2

On the Surface, (Ha! get it?)  the Surface Pro 2 seems like it is a great compromise in regards to the sum of its parts.  At 10.6 inches, you get a good amount of laptop with some tablet mixed in.  Just shy of a month ago, I took a trip to the Microsoft store, excited to buy the Surface Pro 2.  It was to replace my aging Acer Aspire 1810TZ, which all things considered, is still not a terrible laptop.  So why did I end up with the Dell Venue 8 Pro instead?  Read on to find out. First, let us compare the basic differences.  The most obvious is the price difference.  The Dell Venue Pro 8 is $299 for the 64GB version while the Surface Pro with the same amount of storage is $899.  The Dell tops out at 64GB, while the Surface Pro 2 tops out at 512GB.  The problem is that high capacity version costs a ridiculous $1,799.99 without a keyboard. Maybe I am picky, but honestly, even 512GB on a computer is anemic in this day and age. ...

Wozniak is right. What is Apple afraid of?

Recently, Apple Inc. co-founder  Steve Wozniak made ripples in the news due to his opinion that Apple should look into making an Android device .  While many agreed with him, many also derided him for stating his opinion.   Personally, I fall somewhere in the middle on this.  In my opinion, all Apple needs to do is create a "Boot Camp" app for iOS and let third parties (such as  Cyanogen Inc.) handle the rest. Before some of you pick up your pitchforks and torches, Apples current success is the result of loosening their grip on many of their restrictive policies over the years.  I'll give some examples: Apple releases iPod and iTunes to Windows (eventually switches to USB instead of just firewire):    Massive success for Apple. Apple drops mandatory DRM on AAC files: Massive success for Apple. Apple switches from PPC to Intel chips:   Massive success for Apple. Apple adds Boot Camp for Dual Booting with Windows on ...
